Gulzar (born Sampooran Singh Kalra) is an Indian poet, lyricist, film director, and writer who has made significant contributions to Indian cinema and literature. He was born on August 18, 1934, in Dina, Punjab (now in Pakistan) and later moved to Mumbai, India.
Gulzar began his career as a lyricist in the 1963 film Bandini and has since written lyrics for numerous Bollywood films. He has worked with some of the most talented music directors in the industry, including R. D. Burman, A. R. Rahman, and Vishal Bhardwaj, among others. He has won numerous awards for his work in the film industry, including several National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards.
